So, because of my excellent procrastination skills (what else is new), I have recently discovered the nerd inside. Yes, thats right. I dare say I got sucked into the world of “Vlogging”.

What is vlogging you ask? Well, I’ll tell you.

Youtube video + blog = vlog

See, I even put it in an equation for you! My nerddom has reached new heights!

But seriously, Ive wasted SO much of my life the past 24 hours watching random people (mostly people with fun accents from other countries) do stupid and sometimes entertaing things on camera. But vlogs are more than your average stupid youtube video, its like a blog. Its like if I were saying all of this into a camera instead of typing it. Now, I know what youre thinking, thank God I dont do that because it would be insanely boring. I agree. I do not have the content or comedy skills to keep an online video journal about the things that happen to me on a daily basis. I am not that interesting nor am I that witty. However, some people are. And I got sucked into the black hole of the vlogging world and am currently struggling to resurface, and you know, go back to doing my school work.

But there is something about vlogging that captures my attention. Im not sure what. Maybe its the whole idea of connecting with people around the world that you would never ever know otherwise. There is an interesting online community of vloggers that just want to have fun on camera, maybe get their name out there, get their thoughts out there, show off their talents… just for whoever to enjoy. I think its kind of awesome.

Honestly, if I get past the nerdy embarassment and the guilt of feeling like I just wasted hours of my life, I actually think I feel inspired, somehow. Like I want to try to vlog. Then, I realized I have absolutely no confidence in front of a camera, and it would be even more wierd talking to myself while I record something that who knows how many random strangers will watch and judge me for. In a nerdy sort of way, its intimidating.

Still, it inspired me to try it. And I did. And while yes, it was wierd, it was also kind of exciting. I didnt post it up on youtube or anything, I doubt I ever will — the closest I will come is writing about it right now. But it was kinda cool. I must have gained at LEAST 200 nerd points.

Also (I wasnt going to admit this, but now I feel like I should), I busted out my guitar and made up a song with the only 2 chords that I know. I recorded that too. No, you’ll never see it. But I gotta tell you, it was… freeing. I think the fear of looking stupid is something that we all face at one point or another. Actually, I think this whole vlogging idea is a good way to boost your confidence, if thats something you want to work on.

I dont know, its all new to me. I had no clue there was such a huge vlogging trend out there. I am definitely intrigued.

In fact, I may even start a little vlogging experiment of my own in the future. Who knows.

Its all about conquering fears and growing and having fun, right?

I understand that some may argue that “life” cannot truly be lived inside your house 24/7 with the internet being your only source of communication to the outside world. I would probably agree with that, so, thats not really what Im talking about.  I think using a video-blog as a type of journal or outlet for creativity, thoughts, talents, or whatever else is a great idea. There is something about sharing your inner stuff with others that is just… freeing. And who knows, maybe someone out there in all of internet land will think you’ve got something to offer. I mean, you could actually make an impact on people around the world that you dont even know!

Technology is insane. We are living in a world where things like vlogs will become the norm, you just wait.
