the return

24 Nov

Sometimes I forget that, originally, we were created in the image of GOD — a reflection of His beauty and creativity. Jesus calls us to return to the whole and pure person we were created to be. He wants to repair our broken and deeply scarred image.

The real issue is trust. Do I really believe that GOD is all the things He claims to be? Do I trust that I am truly loved, always have been, and always will be? I dont have to do anything… I dont have to prove myself worthy through accomplishments or achievements.

GOD loves you and accepts you for who you are, right now, in the broken state you are in. Theres nothing you can do to lose His acceptance (Romans 8:37-39).

Somewhere inside of me, is the me I was made to be. I want to return to my “true self” — to who GOD intended me to be.

Recently, I read something interesting about this in a book called Velvet Elvis. I know, its shocking, because if you know me, you know I dont really like to read, haha. But I did actually read this! Apparently, Jesus’ first messages began with the Hebrew word “t’shuva” —

“T’shuva, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matthew 4:17). The Hebrew word t’shuva means “to return”. Return to the people we were originally created to be. The people God is remaking us into.

So Ive been thinking a lot about that word.

I want to return.
